The End Of An Error

I still don’t believe he got re-elected. It will take me some more time.

loserThe Independent tells us:

George Bush with a bruise on his left cheek, after a fall in 2002. Bush briefly fainted and injured his face while watching a football game in the White House residence after a pretzel went down the wrong way.
God.

Change has come to America.

So for those of you who didn’t know (you knwo who you are, Sobia), Obama won. I was listening to his victory speech on my way to work this morning, and it was quite obvious why he won. He has such a spellbinding effect on everyone. I guess this explains why Hitler and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had so much support from their people – the powers of a good orator.

I’ve been reading a lot of different opinions on Obama and McCain (lets not even talk about Sarah Palin. Is she serious?) and how either of them being elected will effect Pakistan and the Arab world. I was supporting Obama, although a lot of people said he wasn’t such a good choice for us. But can you imagine McCain (lets not even talk about Sarah Palin) being the President?

My favorite part of the speech was towards the end when the crowd chanted ‘Yes we can’ so passionately after him.

Interesting article

I still dont believe how someone who was once in exile (and in jail!), is now the President of Pakistan. And a landslide victory at that! Is that even allowed? I mean I remember reading in school that a person who had a police record wasn’t allowed to hold office. Do they have a different rule in Pakistan or did I just make that up?

Everyone in the world knows he’s as corrupt as it gets. He’s one of the few politicians who actually has a whole bunch of controversies listed on Wikipedia. And he still gets a landslide victory!

Sometimes I feel really sorry for Pakistan you know. Everyone who’s been in power has in some way or other tried to rip Pakistan off. There was Benazir Bhutto, followed by Nawaz Sharif (btw how can you be bald at one time, and then expect people to believe that you’ve suddenly grown real hair a few years later?) and then Parvez Musharraf. And every single time someone went down, they’d show people giving away mithai and celebrating. How can they choose someone themselves, and then celebrate when he leaves?

How do you determine who really is good for the country? I’ve read so many articles listing the different ways Pakistan was better off under Parvez Musharraf’s military rule. Someone said Pakistan’s stock market was actually the best performing market in Asia under him. But then what about all the money he allegedly kept for himself? And remember those remarks he made about rape being the easy way to Canada for women like Mukhtaran Mai. So not cool. I lost all respect for him after that speech (not mummy though – I think she cried when he gave his farewell speech). He said he was stepping down because he didn’t think he could continue working with the current government after all these charges – even though he would prove they were false. But why didn’t he prove the charges were wrong first?! If he really was saying the truth, why didn’t he clear his name before making way for another President, one who would be elected by the people this time?

I start random conversations with people I don’t even know properly, just so I can find out what their point of view is. And its amazing how different everyone can be. I always thought the Late Bhutto was the corrupt one, but then I read Benazir Bhutto’s first autobiography, and thought maybe he wasn’t so bad you know. He did so much for the country according to her. But then what would you expect from his daughter? Of course she wouldn’t list his shortcomings. And abu thinks the world of Zia Ul Haq, but is that only because he was good to the Afghans? Musharraf’s supporters still think he was the best thing that happened to Pakistan, but what about the way he handled the Lal Masjid Incident? And what he did to the judges (I have lost count of the number of times I have heard the words ‘Judges ki Bahaali’ in the last year)? Imran Khan is extreeeeeeeemely good looking and well spoken, but that doesn’t really count in Politics, right? (No it doesn’t Aisha)

You know who I would love to have a conversation with? Anwar Maqsood. His show Loose talk on Ary is sooo cool. The jokes he makes are so funny and smart at the same time. He just seems so knowledgeable.

I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but I find politics sooo interesting. Maybe its an old person thing :( If only there was someway to have all sides of the story. If you knew everything there was to know about everyone, life would be so easy and you would always make the right decisions. If only.

P.s. I like how I start a post when the subject is relevant, but by the time I get around to completing and publishing it, I end up sounding so lost. Like I’ve been asleep all this time.
